THE GREAT SPHINX Cutting Board

The Great Sphinx may have originally had a beard. Fragments of a stone beard have been found near the Sphinx and are now housed in the British Museum and the Cairo Museum. While it is uncertain whether the beard was part of the original construction or added during a later restoration, the existence of these fragments suggests that the Great Sphinx might have once sported a ceremonial beard, a symbol often associated with pharaohs and deities in ancient Egyptian culture.
