STARS + STRIPES Wine Glass
The American flag's design has changed 27 times since it was first adopted in 1777. The original flag, known as the "Stars and Stripes," had 13 stars and 13 stripes to represent the original 13 colonies. The current design, with 50 stars representing the 50 states, was adopted on July 4, 1960, following Hawaii's admission to the Union. The designer of the 50-star flag was a high school student named Robert G. Heft, who created it for a school project. He received a B- for his efforts, but his teacher promised to raise the grade if Heft's design was accepted as the national flag. When it was indeed chosen, his grade was changed to an A.
