The formula for the area of a circle, $𝐴=𝜋{𝑟}^2$, was derived by the ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes. He used a method called "squaring the circle," which involved inscribing and circumscribing polygons around a circle and calculating their areas to approximate the area of the circle. This early form of calculus laid the groundwork for integral calculus developed much later.
