Certain flower species, such as the common sunflower (Helianthus annuus), exhibit heliotropism during their early growth stages. This means that young sunflower buds and leaves can track the movement of the sun across the sky, facing east in the morning and following the sun to the west by evening. At night, they reorient themselves to face east again, ready to greet the morning sun. This daily motion, known as solar tracking, ceases once the flowers fully mature and fix in an east-facing direction to attract more pollinators and increase reproductive success.
