According to the stele, the young prince Thutmose, who later became Pharaoh, fell asleep near the Sphinx, which was already ancient by his time. In his dream, the Sphinx promised him the throne of Egypt in exchange for clearing away the sand that almost completely covered it. This stele is one of the key pieces of evidence suggesting the Sphinx was seen as a protective and significant monument even thousands of years ago.
